Late autumn...

" I get a little warm in my heart,
When I think of winter"
                                      Tory Amos- "Winter"

Rumor has it that a certain friend of mine is getting ready to make an appearance: Snooooow! It will soon be here, to transform every street, every park and every mountain into a playground for people of all ages. Did you notice how during winter, despite the heavy snow and the freezing cold, people are in a better mood? Winter holidays, vibrant decorations, jolly music, heart-warming movies, time spent with family, snuggly winter clothes, snowboarding: these are only some of the reasons why winter, with its many festivities, is the most wonderful time of the year! Not to mention winter food, which is the best kind of food: hot chocolate, yummy pies, gingerbread!

All this being said, I'm ready to trade my autumn depression for the winter joy! How about you guys?

Mamalina

In celebratory mood

I know that my photos don't actually scream "Happy holidays", but Christmas is knocking at our doors, people. Yesterday, at the Mall, 5 out of 10 stores I visited were playing Christmas carols. I turned on my car radio and there she was, Mariah Carey, saying all she wanted for Christmas was me... Our city center is also quite festive already, with lights and decorations waiting to be turned on... Last weekend I made cinnamon rolls... And it's only mid November. As holiday signs continued to pop everywhere I went, I couldn't help but wonder: is it a bit early for Christmas? Or is it merely our sweet, always helpful marketing making  us understand that the earlier we get out head round Christmas, the earlier we'll get out presents/food/ outfits shopping done?!?

We are Golden!

The star of this week's photo-shoot is definitely my amazing forest, my childhood forest, near my grandparents' village. For me, there was always something mysterious and exciting about this forest. It was the central point of all kind of surreal stories told during summer bonfires and holds a really special place in my heart because of all the wonderful childhood memories it brings!

I remember a particular story about an aircraft that crashed into the forest in the 1940's. My Grandpa once showed me the exact spot of the crash. I told my friends about it and they immediately came up with all kind of ghostly stories. I still get chills when I think about it :P. Oh, sweet innocent childhood with your naivety, your beautiful emotions.I miss this whole faith in the supernatural, I miss the adventure and the thrill of discovering new things. I miss the times when life was so simple, and the only thing I'd care about is how long will I play or how much sweets I'm gonna eat. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing, no matter what people say! It's like the older I get, the better my childhood becomes!

How about you guys?

What do you miss the most about your childhood?

Feeling blue

Oh, boy! Here it goes! The first week at my new job! New people, new building!

I've spent most of the day today in a out-of -body state, like watching a movie...I'd gotten pretty comfortable at my old job and now I find it difficult to get used to another working environment, to establish myself all over again. I can't help but comparing every little aspect of the new job with how things were done at my former employer. I guess this is normal, given the fact that this change was kind of forced on me...(it was a transfer of portfolios and staff from one company to another). I keep on hearing the same old advices: "Give it time!", "It will get better!"... I keep asking myself all sort of questions and over analyzing every gesture and every word that is coming out of my mouth: "Should I laugh?", "Can I make a joke? Pleeeease! :)". I don't know if it will ever get better. All I know is that, for now, I am going to allow myself to feel uncomfortable!

How about you guys? Did you ever have to deal with these first day horrors?

Hugs,

Mamalina
